5 Things To Think About Before You Purchase A House

Whenever you purchase a house, you are also accepting the neighborhood the house is located in and near. The old adage in real estate that location is the most important factor still stands true today.

Things to look for regarding the neighborhood when purchasing a house are:

  1. Neighbors: If you want to purchase a house and right next door is another house that needs major help and is an eyesore to the neighborhood, you may want to look elsewhere. Most buyers are not going to purchase a nice house when the neighbors house and/or other houses in the immediate vicinity are sorely lacking any curb appeal and valued much less. The neighbor's house can affect the value of your house.
  2. Zoning Issues: You may have found a great house in a nice country setting, but what happens when two months later, a major shopping center begins construction in that nice cotton field across the street? What if construction begins to make that nice quiet, country two lane road into a four lane boulevard two weeks after you move in? Your house may have just lost some its marketability and value.
  3. Schools: Knowing the schools in the area of your house is always good information. If the schools do not have a good reputation, then your house may sit on the market longer than expected and you may end up selling for less. Good schools are always a plus. Make sure to drive to the schools to know exactly how far they are from the house.
  4. Shopping: If a house is conveniently located to grocery stores, shopping centers, and restaurants, chances are you can use that information to help sell the house.
  5. Statistics: With the internet, it is now possible to find out any statistic there is about the neighborhood and area where the house is located. Crime statistics, school ratings, median incomes, and other information are always good things to know.

Always remember that knowledge and money go hand in hand, the more of one you have, the more of the other you can obtain, Find out all you can about the neighborhood, schools, and other important factors that may affect the marketability of the house.
